14-year-old boy wins 11km Omu-Aran marathon



Fourteen-year-old Ibrahim Jamiu of Omu-Aran High School has emerged winner of the 7th Skylarks’ 11-km Omu-Aran Marathon after returning with a time of 38mins 22secs in the male category on Wednesday.

Temitope Ajiboye of Aperan Comprehensive College also beat other contenders in the female category with a time of 43 minutes and 36 secs.

The two winners however bagged scholarship awards from Hon Tunji Olawuyi representing Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Isin/Irepodun Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Daniel Olasehinde of Ofe Aran Commercial College came 2nd in the male category with a time of 38mins 38 secs with AbdulAzeez Musa of Aperan Comprehensive College finishing in the 3rd position with a time of 39 mins 42 secs.


Oyinkan Olaniyi of Omu-Aran High School pick up the silver medal in the female category with a time of 44mins 39 secs while Adeyemi Bode of Ofe Aran Commercial College finished the race in 48 mins 10 secs to win the bronze medal.

The President of Skylarks Club of Omu-Aran, Elder James Sangoyomi, congratulated the winners and asked them to embrace Sports even as they can find a career in it.

He presented the winners cash prizes and as well as their schools for raising good athletes in the marathoners.

The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, congratulated the athletes and urged them to embrace sports and education.

He urged the athletes to shun any social vice as it will only kill their dreams of becoming a sport star in the future.

The traditional ruler commended Skylarks Club of Omu-Aran for the annual event praying that their God will reward their contributions to the development of the community abundantly.

The member representing Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun and Oke-Ero Federal Constituency of Kwara, Rt. Hon. Tunji Olawuyi aka Ajuloopin however, announced a scholarship up to the University level for the two winners.
