Heartland fans want Boboye despite gov’s order

Heartland fans have clamoured for coach Kennedy Boboye to be left in charge of the relegation-threatened club after Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, ordered the reinstatement of former coach Samson Obi, Saturday PUNCH reports.

Boboye took over the Naze Millionaires in November, but after six games in charge, his job came under threat from governor Uzodinma, before their 3-1 win over Remo Stars on Thursday.

Spurred by the impressive win over Remo, the fans swarmed the pitch after the game and chanted, “Boboye, na you we know,” meaning Boboye is the only coach they reckon with.

In an emotional post-match interview, Boboye also said it was his last game in charge of the club.

“This victory is for the fans. Imo state is where I have gotten the most support in my managerial career. I won’t be here for the next game. I wish them well, this is a place where the people had me at heart,” Boboye said.

“The number one citizen of the state made a pronouncement and this is my last game as the manager.

“Everything the players have done for me they should do for Christian Obi. He was the one who recruited them. I have told the players to give him maximum support.” He concluded.

During his seven games in charge, he won three, drew one and lost three as well as Heartland are 17th with 16 points from 16 games.
