WTTC: Nigeria know foes today

Nigeria’s men’s and women’s table tennis team will know their opponents at the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships finals in Busan, South Korea as the draws for the global showpiece holds on Tuesday (today) at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The tournament, which will be held from February 16 to 25, will see the top eight teams in the men’s and women’s categories jostling for qualification slots in the team event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

According to ITTF, Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia are the other countries representing Africa in both events, while Madagascar will compete in the men’s event, just as Mauritius will vie for honours in the women’s category.

Meanwhile, Egypt has picked the continent’s sole ticket in the team events (men and women) and this will afford Nigeria and other African teams to join the North African nation in the team event of the Olympic Games.

Apart from the Olympic tickets at stake, the championships will see the globe’s strongest teams faceoff to win two of the sport’s most coveted prizes; the Swaythling and Corbillon Cups.
