NiMet, NIM collaborate on employee training

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigerian Institute of Management have collaborated on ways to build the capacity of employees of NiMet.

The Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Charles Anosike and the President of NIM, Christiana Atako, recently held a discussion on this in Abuja, a release from the agency disclosed.

The NIM boss stated that the institute’s training would help build the capacity of NiMet staffers and motivate them.

According to Atako, NIM offers which will be beneficial to the agency, adding that it includes executive training and intensive training for the membership admission programme.

Atako advised the management of NiMet to consider paying outstanding membership dues of staff members.

“The aim behind this suggestion is to motivate the affected staff and ensure they feel appreciated for their dedication and hard work within the institute.

“The chairman requested that the management of NiMet consider paying outstanding membership dues of staff members as a way of motivating the affected staff.

“She also requested that NiMet consider sponsoring staff to attend the 2024 Annual National Management Conference of the institute holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from  September 22 to 24,” the statement partly read.

In response, Anosike acknowledged the significance of effective management in NiMet’s operations and welcomed the idea of collaborating with NIM to enhance staff development.

“Management is the organising principle of any institution. NiMet’s workforce is focused on delivering on the mandate given to us by our Honourable Minister, Festus Keyamo, drawn from the Aviation Sector Roadmap for Nigeria. Part of that mandate is staff development.

According to Anosike, the science of meteorology requires proper management and coordination.

“As you are aware, NiMet is a scientific organisation and we have several smart people and professors working in the agency. We welcome the idea of collaborating with the Nigerian Institute of Management.

“We need to define the terms of the collaboration with NIM by signing an MOU, which will outline the responsibilities and expectations from both NiMet and NIM,” he remarked.
