Sunshine Stars have won back-to-back home games for the first time in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season, thanks to a 3-1 win over Plateau United during a match-day 24 game in Akure on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Mid-season signing, Sodiq Ibrahim, scored a brace after the opener from Yusuf Ibrahim while Albert Hilary netted his 11th goal of the season for the visitors.
Plateau United goalkeeper, Suraj Ayeleso made three big saves to deny Promise Awosanmi and Yusuf Ibrahim in the opening stages of the game before the latter found the breakthrough in the 28th minute.
Sodiq Ibrahim finished off a superb team move to make it two eight minutes later.
After the restart, substitute Hilary came off the bench and reduced the deficit with a long range effort in the 58th minute.
The goal gave the visitors the impetus to keep their hosts on the backfooot, but they were undone in the closing stages by Sodiq, who restored Sunshine’s two-goal cushion.
Kennedy Boboye’s side now have two wins in their last three games as they await Katsina United at home on Wednesday.
In other match-day 24 games decided on Saturday, Katsina United were forced to a 1-1 draw at home by Heartland just as Rivers United also settled for a 1-1 drae against Kano Pillars in Port Harcourt.
In Yenagoa, Ikechukwu Nwani’s second half goal earned Niger Tornadoes a 1-0 win over Bayelsa United, marking their first away win of the season.
