Osimhen, Chukwueze make Serie A TOTW

Nigerian duo Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze have been named in Serie A matchday 31 Team of The Week following their impressive performances for Napoli and AC Milan, respectively.

In a tweet posted by Whoscored.com on Tuesday, the two Super Eagles forward were named among the best-performing players in the Italian top-flight for the weekend.

While Osimhen was the only Napoli player that made the team, Milan had the highest number with six players making the selection. Roma, Juventus, Torino, and Sassuolo all had one player each.

Osimhen made the selection after inspiring Napoli to 4-2 comeback win over Monza at  U-Power Stadium – Brianteo, with a gravity-defying header.

In the 55th minute of the encounter, with the champions trailing by a lone goal, the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year rose incredibly to meet André-Frank Anguissa’s cross to head home, pulling Napoli level.

It was his first goal since his hat-trick against Sassuolo on February 28.

He has now taken his season tally to 12 in the league and 14 across all competitions.

For his part, Chukwueze continued his resurgence, inspiring Milan to a resounding 3-0 win over Lecce on Saturday.

The former Villarreal star assisted Christian Pulisic’s goal in the win, with his contribution over 90 minutes earning him the Man of the Match award.

The 24-year-old has now registered two goals for Stefano Pioli’s team in the last three league games.

Also making the team was Mike Maignan in goal, while the defence had Davide Calabria (Milan), Diego Llorente (Roma), Federico Gatti (Juventus) and Théo Hernandez (Milan).

In midfield, Nedim Bajrami (Sassuolo), Yacine Adli (Milan), Rafael Leão (Milan) and Chukwueze got the nod, while Osimhen and Duván Zapata were the two strikers that completed the team.
