Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged the challenges ahead for his team in the Premier League title race, particularly with an important match against Liverpool coming up next weekend.
After City faced a tough 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, marking their fifth consecutive loss in all competitions and third straight in the league, Pep Guardiola emphasized the need for improvement. He noted that if the team were to lose to Liverpool, they would find themselves 11 points behind, making the title race significantly more difficult.
Guardiola said, “It’s true that an 11-point gap would be substantial. At this moment, our focus is not solely on winning or losing the title; rather, we must concentrate on the present and what we can control. Ultimately, if we do not succeed, it will be because we did not perform at the level required. We’ve earned our past successes through our efforts.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City defender Kyle Walker shared a positive outlook on the upcoming match against Liverpool on December 1, stressing the importance of stepping up their performance.
He said, “This is a perfect opportunity to turn things around and secure three points against a strong opponent. We know the stakes and better performance is essential to avoid being outpaced by Liverpool.”
Also, Walker underscored the importance of the upcoming Champions League game on Tuesday, describing it as a crucial step towards regaining momentum ahead of the significant clash at Anfield. “We need to focus on our preparation and aim for an improved performance to stay competitive in the league,” he noted.
