Maritime unions laud NPA for career advancement



Maritime unions under the auspices of the Maritime Workers Association of Nigeria and the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporation and Government-Owned Companies have lauded the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, for career advancement and staff welfare.

This was contained in a statement by the NPA on Friday.

According to the statement, the unions in a letter signed by the SSASCGOC President, Akinola Bodunde, thanked Oyetola for securing approval for the NPA under Dantsoho to clear the age-long backlog problem of employee stagnation “by conducting promotion examination to the admiration of the union and its members.”

Bodunde also said that the unions appreciate the increase in productivity bonuses, provision of end-of-year welfare items to staff, and the review of the “Financial Guide to the Condition of Service, which has comprehensively responded to members’ yearnings for increase in response to inflationary trends.”


He assured the management team of the NPA of improved productivity, especially in achieving the key performance indicators as stipulated in the Presidential/ Ministerial Performance Bond.

In his response, Dantsoho said, “Our ability to address these issues in quick time is attributable to the unwavering support of the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the ever-cooperative executive management team,”

Dantsoho commended the President-General of MWUN, who is also the Deputy President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Adewale Adeyanju, for his professionalism in ensuring industrial harmony.

He also assured the workers of continuous improvement.

The NPA boss mentioned that the improved productivity that management expects of the workforce has continued to yield dividends for the national economy.
