[UPDATED] EPL: Amad Diallo’s hat-trick seals Man U defeat of Southampton

Amad Diallo’s late hat-trick shattered Southampton’s hopes, leading Manchester United to a 3-1 comeback win and avoiding what could have been a fourth consecutive home defeat.

Despite impressive efforts from Super Eagles duo Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo, Southampton suffered a stunning late collapse, Soccernet reports.

The visitors initially found hope after a first-half own goal by Manuel Ugarte, who inadvertently deflected the ball into his net.

The Saints defended valiantly, frustrating United for much of the match.

However, Diallo turned the game around in the 82nd minute, pouncing on a rebound to fire past Aaron Ramsdale.

Minutes later, Christian Eriksen’s lofted pass set him up for a brilliant finish, giving United the lead. Diallo completed his hat-trick in injury time, capitalizing on a defensive error to seal the victory.

Onuachu, a late substitute, had limited impact in his eight minutes on the pitch, while Aribo delivered a strong 73-minute performance before being replaced, after which Southampton’s defence fell apart.

With only six points in the league, Southampton now face a tough challenge against title contenders Nottingham Forest in their next match at the City Ground.
