Minister vows to complete housing projects in 20 states

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has outlined plans to complete national housing projects in 20 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, as part of his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

This initiative, he said, aligns with the presidential mandate of providing affordable housing for all Nigerians.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Salisu Haiba, the Minister emphasised the need for enhanced budgetary allocations to meet these ambitious housing goals.

“Dangiwa also listed the focus areas of his ministry in the 2025 budget to include the construction of 20,000 housing units under the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda and the completion of national housing projects in over 20 states and the FCT,” the statement read.

During his presentation of the 2025 budget to the National Assembly, Dangiwa highlighted the ministry’s key priorities for the year, which include completing ongoing housing projects, slum upgrading, and urban renewal programmes across the country.

In the statement, Dangiwa also urged the National Assembly to approve increased funding in seven critical areas, which he said were essential to realising the transformative housing policies and programmes of President Bola Tinubu’s administration aimed at economic recovery and growth.

The seven key areas for increased funding, as outlined by the minister, include increased funding for the completion of ongoing housing projects, enhanced allocation for slum upgrading and urban renewal programmes, additional resources for the national housing projects, improved funding for affordable housing initiatives, enhanced allocation for housing infrastructure development, increased support for housing research and development, and improved funding for housing policy and regulatory framework development.
