Boboye positive despite tough Heartland start

Heartland coach Kennedy Boboye remains optimistic of helping the club move out of the relegation zone in the Nigeria Premier Football League despite failing to win his first two games in charge, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The former Sunshine Stars, Remo Stars and Akwa United manager took over the struggling Naze Millionaires three weeks ago, replacing Christian Obi who had overseen a nine-game winless run since the start of the season.

Boboye’s start to life was however short of his dream start as he lost an oriental derby 1-0 at home against Enyimba before grinding out a goalless draw against 3SC in Ibadan on Sunday.

The draw against 3SC however seemed like a relief for the gaffer, who believes his side still have a very good chance of escaping relegation despite failing to win in 11 games so far this season.

“I came to Ibadan to pick the three maximum points but a draw is never a bad result. I have never lost here and you can see that this city is like my second home and I’m not supposed to lose in my home. We have a target and the first assignment is to lift the team from the danger zone,” Boboye said after the draw against 3SC.

Heartland are the only club without a win in the NPFL and are bottom of the table with seven points after 11 games.

Four of their seven draws this season have been from a winning position, as they agonisingly surrendered wins against Katsina United, Rivers United, Bayelsa United and Sporting Lagos.

Their next game is at home against hard-fighting Bendel Insurance on Wednesday.
