NIN modification: FG warns against use of unofficial portal

The National Identity Management Commission has warned Nigerians against using unauthorised websites for modifying their National Identification Number data, emphasising that such actions could expose them to identity theft and other security risks.

In a statement issued on Monday, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke, urged the public to use only the official self-service modification portal: [selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.

“To ensure the security and integrity of your NIN data, modifications can only be done on the official NIMC self-service portal. Do not attempt to modify your NIN on any unauthorised website, as this may compromise your personal information,” the identity regulator stated.

It assured that using the official platform guarantees data protection while offering the convenience of updating information from anywhere, at any time.

NIMC advised Nigerians to verify any NIN-related services through its official website ([www.nimc.gov.ng](https://www.nimc.gov.ng)), customer service email ([email protected]), or by calling 0700-225-56462.

The commission reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens’ data and urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent platforms.
