WABU champ Abubakar set for second international bout

West African Boxing Union cruiserweight champion Faruq Abubakar is set for his second international bout as he prepares to face Faycal Karkour in France on March 30.

The Nigerian pugilist, who fought in Germany last year for the World Boxing Federation title, will travel to Le White, 68 Rue Louis Ampere 93330 Neuilly Sue France, for the international cruiserweight fight.

Abubakar, who will be accompanied by his coach/manager Malik Olamide, has promised to give his French opponent “the beating of his life right in the four squared ring.”

This bout marks Abubakar’s continued push for international recognition following his European debut in May 2024, when he suffered his first professional defeat against German Dennis Bege by TKO in the second round.

Despite that setback, the Nigerian boxer has demonstrated remarkable resilience, bouncing back with four victories and one draw. His current professional record stands at 15 wins, one loss, and one draw, with 14 of his victories coming by way of knockout.

Abubakar’s European debut last year attracted significant attention as he entered the bout with an impressive undefeated record of 11 wins, all by knockout.

However, the challenge of facing the unbeaten German boxer (7-0-0-1KOs) on foreign soil proved too much for the West African champion.

The upcoming fight in France represents an opportunity for Abubakar to redeem himself on the international stage and continue building his reputation in the cruiserweight division.

Boxing enthusiasts will be watching closely as the WABU champion attempts to secure a victory on European soil against Karkour, further enhancing his credentials as one of Africa’s promising boxing talents.
