As more lawmakers in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State House of Assembly defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the special adviser to the governor on political mobilisation and engagement, Hon Utubor Eugene, has said the state would soon witness the end of the opposition PDP.
He also disclosed that his ongoing visitations to some communities where he interacted with the people at the grassroots also gave him firsthand information and the opportunity to identify some of the challenges the people are confronted with.
He assured the people of the governor’s readiness and commitment to alleviating their suffering through his SHINE agenda.
Eugene also took a swipe at the PDP for politicising the issue of security in the state, noting that the party paid lip service to the challenges of insecurity in the state while it was in power for eight years.
He said Governor Monday Okpebholo has demonstrated commitment to the issue of security even before he became a Senator by providing patrol vehicles and financial support in Edo Central senatorial district to local vigilantes.
He said, “I am just coming from a place where former leaders of the PDP are collapsing their structure to join us and by the next few weeks or months, Edo State would experience a political tsunami. They want to join hands with the governor to develop the state and I can tell you that in the next few months, there won’t be PDP in Edo State because Okpebholo is doing what the people want.
“When the righteous rule, the people will rejoice. What do you expect from a governor who is performing? Why will they stay in the opposition? They are uniting with the governor to develop the state. They are tired of factions and infighting within their former party; they have no option than to join hands with the governor to build the state. More are still coming to us. They are happy with what the governor is doing.”
On alleged politicisation of insecurity, he said, “The PDP knows the cause of the insecurity in the state; it is expected when they tried to politicise it.
This is a government that recently marked 100 days in office; apart from the days of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the PDP didn’t purchase a single Hilux for police operation.
“Okpebholo, before he became a senator, bought vehicles for Atalakpa security outfit in Edo Central senatorial district. We thank God that we have a proactive governor who knows what to do at the right time and I can assure you that very soon, insecurity will be a thing of the past. “
