Remi Tinubu advocates for women’s volleyball dev



The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while commending players, officials, and organisers 2025 Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship called for women’s volleyball development, The PUNCH reports.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the championship in a gathering that included members of the diplomatic corps, national sports leaders, and volleyball officials from across the continent, she praised the discipline and inspiration of the athletes.

“I’m delighted to join you today at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship,” she began.

“For the past two weeks, we have seen the spirit of Africa at its finest. I particularly experienced the excellent display at the opening match between Nigeria and Cameroon.”


She also celebrated the triumph of Egyptian club Zamalek, hailing them as deserving champions. “To our champions Zamalek, on behalf of Nigeria and the entire women of Africa, I say a big congratulations. Your victory today was earned through countless hours of practice, teamwork, and perseverance. We all can attest that your journey to this podium is entrenched deep in hard work and today you’ve reaped the rewards.”

“As a woman who has transverse through various competitions and challenges, I see in each of you the strength and resilience that defines the African woman. Please keep it up.”

The First Lady also extended appreciation to the Director General of the Department of State Services, the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, among others, for their leadership and support.

“I want to particularly commend and thank the Director General and the entire team for successfully hosting the 2025 Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship,” she said. “I commend the National Sports Commission, the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Ibrahim.

“To the sponsors, officials, coaches, volunteers, and spectators, thank you for your contribution to making this championship a resounding success.”

In closing, she reaffirmed her support for women’s volleyball across the continent and celebrated the unifying impact of the championship.

“As the grand patron of the sport that has brought us together, I could not be more proud of what has transpired here. May the ball keep flying and may the lessons learned during this tournament continue to strengthen women’s volleyball across Africa.

“It is now my pleasure to officially declare the African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship closed. I wish you all a wonderful day. God bless the continent of Africa.”
