Nigerian sprinter and 2024 Paris Olympics women’s 200m finalist, Favour Ofili, has been listed for the second leg of the new Grand Slam Track meet after missing the opener in Kingston, Jamaica, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Grand Slam Track is the global home of professional track competition launched by four-time Olympic champion Michael Johnson.
The second slam of its inaugural season, the Miami Slam, will take place May 2–4 at the Ansin Sports Complex, in Miramar, Florida.
The organisers cited injuries and unexpected circumstances when Ofili was one of the 10 athletes who opted out of the first leg of the meet.
Ahead of the second leg, Ofili and other racers and challengers were announced on Thursday.
Ofili is in a strong field in the women’s short sprints (100m and 200m), competing with the likes of Olympic medallists Melissa Jefferson, Brittany Brown, Daryll Neita and Gabby Thomas.
Also in the mix are Tamari Davies, Jacious Sears and Kyala White.
Ofili, 22, launched her 2025 outdoor campaign in sensational style last weekend, clocking a season-opening 22.34s (+0.2) in the women’s 200m at the Tom Jones Invitational.
Running from lane seven in a star-studded heat that featured some of the world’s best, Ofili held her own and finished second behind reigning Olympic champion Julien Alfred, who stormed to a world-leading 21.88s.
The second leg of the slam will be followed by another on May 30 to June 1 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia while the last leg is slated for June 27-29 at UCLA’s Drake Stadium in Los Angeles.
The winner of each race group will take home $100,000 in prize money, and the 8th-place competitor will earn $10,000. Grand Slam Track has a total of $12.6m in prize money awarded across the slams each year in addition to the base compensation paid to racers and appearance fees paid to challengers.
