AFCON: Tanzania sacks head coach seven days into tournament

Tanzania coach Adel Amrouche has been sacked by the Tanzania Football Federation following an eight-match ban and a $10, 000 fine by the Confederation of Africa Football

The Algerian was handed the ban because of his comment after their 3-0 thrashing by Morocco in their first match.

In a statement released by the Tanzania Football Federation on Friday, Amrouche would be replaced by Hemed Morocco as the interim coach.

“In another step, the Executive Committee of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has suspended Coach Adel Amrouche.

“As a result of that decision, Hemed Morocco has been appointed as Acting Coach, and he will be assisted by Juma Mgunda,” the statement read.

Amruche had questioned Morocco’s influence in the match and suggested that the North Africans have a say in selecting the referees for their matches.

“Morocco determines everything in African football, they also choose their referees. We remain spectators because they determine everything,” he said

Tanzania will take on former champions, Zambia in their second Group F match on Sunday by 6 pm.

Morocco cruised to a 3-0 win over 10-man Tanzania in San Pedro on Wednesday as they opened their AFCON Group F campaign
