The maiden edition of the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa Football Competition has officially kicked off on Friday at the Beulah Anglican High School field in Ore, the headquarters of the Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Declaring the competition open on Friday, the Chairman of the Odigbo Local Government, Taiwo Adegoroye, praised the initiative for aligning with the state’s youth and sports development agenda.
He said, “This competition is timely and important. It supports the government’s agenda for youth engagement, peace, and community development and it also meant to develop talents in the game of football.
In his remarks, the sponsor of the competition and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Monday Alade, also explained that the motive of organising the competition was to identify and develop future great footballers across the state.
He said, “ This tournament is a platform to identify and empower talented youths as scouts and coaches are already taking notes of the players. Our foundation is proud to support this vision.
”This is the least we can do to contribute to Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa’s youth development drive.”
The competition’s coordinator, Olalekan Sanya, assured all participating teams of a fair and transparent competition.
“Our focus is on integrity and transparency. Every team will have an equal chance to succeed. As the tournament progresses, fans and scouts alike will be watching closely for emerging talents who may soon rise to national prominence, he noted.
The competition featured 30 teams from across the Ondo South Senatorial District.
