Alimosho Grammar School old students donate furniture to alma mater

The Alimosho Grammar School Old Student Association (2002 set), has donated 30 units of chairs and tables to its alma mater.

President, of AGSOSA 2002 set, Mr Babatunde Musa, at its Annual General Meeting held on the school premises, said the donation was done following its findings that the school lacked furniture.

He added that the donation done under the “Seat-for-a-child” project was also in recognition of the need for Alumni to support the government in the enhancement of the education sector.

“The only way we can support the government is to corroborate its efforts. And the key thing we noticed is that the school lacks furniture. So we have been able to do some furniture.

“We brought in the furniture last year, but we decided that because we are having our AGM today, the donation of chairs and tables should be part of our event,” Musa said. He added that the donation was to avert a situation where students are forced to sit on the floor to learn.

Musa said the set would, next year, look at equipping the school’s information and communication technology room.

“At the moment, the school has an ICT room, but we have been told that some of the facilities are not in order. Though the Lagos State Government is already making plans, we, the Alumni, think it’s important to also make our little efforts to help the school by donating chairs and ICT equipment,” he said.

He urged students to imbibe a maintenance culture so that school facilities stay long before needing repair or replacement.

The principal of the school, Mrs Adekoje Matilda lauded the intervention by the old students as crucial in guaranteeing a better teaching and learning environment.

“This is a very laudable intervention; It is a way of giving back to the school, their alma mater, and we are very proud of them. We are proud of their achievement; we are proud that they are not forgetting their roots and their souls, and that they are giving back to the school,” she said.

The National President of AGSOSA, Mr Yomi Begbaaji, said that the donation was in line with the mandate of the Alumni to give back to their alma mater, from time to time.
