Anambra 2025: LP Governorship Aspirants Seek Consensus

Ahead of the November Anambra State gubernatorial election, Labour Party aspirants have opened the door for consensus candidacy to ensure victory.

George Moghalu and John Nwosu, both from Nnewi town, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state are currently in the race for the ticket of the Labour Party for the election to unseat Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Moghalu, in a press conference, on New Year Day, said if he and Nwosu do not agree on one candidate, it would limit the chances of Nnewi people and lead to a waste of resources for the two of them.

“He (Nwosu) is my brother and friend, in fact my in-law. Nothing is cast in iron and we have a good personal relationship. We also have our relations who are also involved in the politics of the town. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of us meeting and discussing so that we don’t waste resources and time.

“We need to work together to actualize the Nnewi dream. It is not impossible to meet, politics is about human dynamics, so I have no problem with that, I will not rule that out, even the party constitution provides for such, so we can discuss to ensure that things work out well,” he said.

The immediate past Managing Director of Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) stated that what was important was a victory of the party.

What is important is that we want Labour Party to form government of the state, so we are working together about this.

“We will meet, certainly we will meet, there is still a lot of time. Yesterday we were together in Onitsha, and before the primary election, we may still meet and hold a conversation,” he stated.

Moghalu decried the leadership policies of Governor Soludo, stating he would deliver quality leadership in the state.
