Anambra: Women In Nude Protest Against CP Were Hired Sex Workers, Says Group

A group of Anambra State women, under the aegis of the Ultimate Business Women and Farmers Association of Nigeria (UBWFAN), has said the women who protested naked across some parts of Awka, the state capital last week, were sex workers recruited from outside the state.

LEADERSHIP reports that some women had last week engaged in a nude protest to demand the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aderemi Adeoye, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Chris Folakade, be transferred from the state.

But the UBWFAN leader, Hon. Nkiru Nwagbo, who led members of the group from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state on a courtesy visit to CP Adeoye at the state police command headquarters on Wednesday, urged the state police boss to ignore the protesters because investigation by UBWFAN had shown that the nude women protesters were recruited sex workers from outside the state.

Nwagbo said, “Going by our painstaking investigation, it has been discovered that those women (who protested nude) are not from Anambra State but prostitutes recruited from outside the state and paid to go on protest.

“We want to use this opportunity to state that Anambra women are well trained, highly cultured, and well mannered (and cannot afford) to reduce themselves to this lunacy.”

She commended CP Adeoye, saying that the police command under him had brought the activities of unknown gunmen and other miscreants hitherto terrorising law-abiding citizens in Awka and other parts of the state under control.

She urged the CP not to be discouraged by the antics of those who are enemies of peace, security, and orderliness.

In his response, CP Adeoye said he was convinced that the protesters were not representatives of the ideal Anambra women, adding that the protest was the handiwork of some unscrupulous people who have been hiding under the cover of fighting insecurity in Awka to promote cult activities.

The police boss, however, disclosed that the perpetrators have been arrested and would be made to face the full weight of the law.

CP Adeoye commended the activities of the UBWFAN and urged the leadership not to relent in championing the promotion of the virtues of womenhood.
