Barge operators, maritime workers partner to boost efficiency

The Barge Operators Association of Nigeria has concluded plans to partner with the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria to boost efficiency in the nation’s maritime sector.

In a recent statement by the Head of Media at MWUN, John Ikemefuna, the Vice President of BAON, Hyginus Ndukwe, stated this when the group visited the newly elected president of MWUN, Mr Francis Bunu, in Apapa, Lagos.

Ndukwe explained that the visit was not just a courtesy one but to congratulate the newly elected President-General, Comrade Bunu, over his landslide victory in the election “and also to familiarise him with the view to seeking a beneficial collaboration with the MWUN on various areas of common interest in the sector.

“The operators are ready and willing to do business with the union, believing that MWUN is capable of accommodating BOAN, given its magnitude and mode of operations in the country’s maritime industry,” he said.

Earlier, the MWUN PG promised to do his best within the confines of the union, stressing that MWUN is open to genuine collaboration at all times, especially within the industrial sector.

“He thanked the BOAN executives for their visit and promised them a good working relationship as soon as the said proposal is hatched,” the statement read.
