Be intellectually curious, AAU VC tells college

The Vice-Chancellor, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has advised students of Good Shepherd College of Education, Dalemo, Ogun State, to develop intellectual curiosity, and critical-thinking skills.

Speaking during the 2023/2024 matriculation of The Good Shepherd College of Education, said that the matriculation  represented another significant step in Adekunle Ajasin University’s mission to provide quality and affordable education to deserving candidates across Nigeria.

Good Shepherd College of Education in Lagos is affiliated with Adekunle Ajasin University in Ondo State.

Ige who was represented by Prof. George Ayenigbara, said, “It is important to note that education is not confined to the classroom. I encourage you to engage in extracurricular activities and community service, as these experiences will aid your personal growth, broaden your perspectives, and equip you with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world

“Moreover, cultivate intellectual curiosity and critical-thinking.

Be open to diverse ideas, challenge established beliefs, and explore knowledge beyond your field of study. Interdisciplinary collaboration is key to finding innovative solutions to the complex problems facing our society.”

The Provost, Good Shepherd College of Education, Dr Oluyemisi Oyeyemi, appreciated AAU for granting the affiliation.

She, thereby, enjoined the matriculants to be curious, focused, stay determined, keep learning, and keep exploring.

Oyeyemi said, “So that by the time you are getting out of this place, you would have become proficient educators with integrity as part of the package because you can be proficient and you lack integrity but Good Shepherd is known for the combination of integrity and competence.”

“So, as you go along in this journey and then and then you are done with your programme, just remember that we are just here not just to make you proficient. We want you to be socially responsible. We want you to be emotionally responsive. We want you to be spiritually aware. We want you to make positive marks on this world. By the time you are leaving, let it be said that a great teacher has exited this place. Lord, let it be said about you like that.”
