Benue To Partner FG On Resettlement, Empowerment Of IDPs

Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with the federal government on the resettlement and empowerment of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The executive secretary of BSEMA, Sir James Iorpuu, who disclosed this during the monthly distribution of food and non-food items to IDPs to enable them enjoy the Easter with their families, said the distribution also covered refugees and orphanages.

Sir Iorapuu, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management,  said the agency was working tirelessly to support IDPs across the state.

He said, “I am planning a tour of all the IDP camps to better understand their immediate needs aside from food and strategise on how to tackle them. A key project of Benue SEMA which is tagged; Father Alia’s Hall, is 90 percent completed, the facility will serve as a hub for humanitarian coordination, stakeholder engagement and capacity-building sessions.

“BSEMA is working with the United Nations, INGOs, local NGOs and civil society groups to support IDPs in many areas of need.”

He said the state government had secured and cleared several hectares of land and formed over 200 cooperatives to commence an IDPs farm project.
