‘Club Brugge can’t keep Onyedika’

Former Genk and Gent head coach, Hein Vanhaezebrouck, has hinted that Super Eagles midfielder, Raphael Onyedika, will leave Club Brugge this summer as the club can’t afford to keep him any longer.

The 23-year-old central midfielder was linked with a move to Galatasaray in the summer, but he stayed put with Nicky Hayen’s side.

Vanhaezebrouck, who coached Genk in 2009, praised Onyedika following his display in Club Brugge’s 1-0 win over Tolu Arokodare’s Genk and revealed the Belgian side would struggle to keep the Nigerian at the Jan Breydelstadion beyond this summer.

“He’s outstanding and great. They won’t be able to keep them after this season. He was very strong, and he has seen all of Europe,” the 61-year-old said in quotes revealed by Voetbal Nieuws.

Club Brugge demanded a fee of €20m for Onyedika last season but are set to raise their asking fee for the talented midfielder when the transfer window opens this summer.

He has two goals and two assists in 45 games for Blauw-Zwart across all competitions.

The Super Eagles midfielder has become the latest target for several top European clubs. He caught the eye with his outstanding performance against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, where he scored the opening goal in a thrilling contest at the Etihad Stadium.

His dynamic playing style has attracted the attention of several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain.

According to reports from the Telegraph, Manchester City are particularly interested in signing Onyedika as a deputy for their key midfielder Rodri, who has been struggling with injuries.
