Confed Cup: Enyimba falter against Zamalek in Uyo

Nine-time Nigerian champions Enyimba are still in search of their first win in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup following a 2-2 draw against Zamalek of Egypt in their second group game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday.

The three-time CAF Champions League winners were stunned by their visitors who stormed to a 2-0 lead inside 40 minutes through Seifeddine Jaziri and Omar Faraj.

Enyimba however pulled one back before the end of the first half through Ifeanyi Ihemekwele while Chinedu Ufere completed the comeback after the restart.

Ufere’s equaliser for the People’s Elephant came in the 57th minute and despite pilling the pressure in the final 30 minutes of the game, Daniel Olanrewaju’s side couldn’t break their resilient visitors.

Still without a win after two matches, Enyimba are now third in Group D with just a point while Zamalek are on top of the table with four points.

The Aba giants lost their first game of the tournament 2-0 against Al Masry in Egypt.

Enyimba will return to Aba to face Sunshine Stars in a rescheduled NPFL game on Wednesday before travelling to face bottom-placed Mozambican side Black Bulls next Sunday.
