CRFFN pledges to digitise freight forwarding in Nigeria



The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria said it has concluded plans to digitalise freight forwarding in Nigeria to boost efficiency.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the council, Mr Igwe Kingsley, stated this recently in Lagos during the quarterly meeting of the Nigeria Ports Consultative Council in Lagos.

He underscored the need for the council to take advantage of digital technology to enhance services.

“Right now, we are also talking about digital freight forwarding. We want to take advantage of digital technology to enhance our services,” Igwe said.


He reiterated that digitising the operations would reduce conflicts, disputes, disengagement, and all the interchanges around the port.

Igwe commended the efforts of the President, Bola Tinubu, particularly in the area of digitalisation, “because as per the record of 2024, you would agree with me that the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was among the highest scoring in a performance bond. And this digital application was one of the areas of great performance and human capacity building in the sector.”

He mentioned the need to ensure that the efforts of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, are enhanced through capacity building, such that those delivery services in the sector will be proficient as expected to be at par with their global counterpart.

Igwe added that without training the service providers, there will definitely be a lot of deficiencies.

“And that is why, if you adopt the initiative and all the benefits of digitising our processes, the port environment will be a very good place for everyone to do business. Not only on the port side, but on the hinterland, because it also cuts across to the port users, the importers, the shippers, other stakeholders in the industry, even the government agencies that provide the platform for people to do business around it.

“So I am leveraging on capacity building in this sense with my good brother, who is very much interested in seeing the efficiency improve in the port environment,” Igwe said.

He commended the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, for his efforts towards ensuring that port users and service providers do their business seamlessly.
