Cycling federation hails Fasema after Lagos-Maiduguri trip

The Nigeria Cycling Federation has praised the efforts of ex-Nigerian cyclist, Samuel Fasema, who rode from Lagos to Maiduguri and returned on Saturday, for not only promoting peace but also promoting the enormous benefits of the sport.

Fasema started the ride from Yaba Local Council Development Area of Lagos State on January 19 and returned to Lagos on Saturday after covering about a distance of 3,776.03 kilometres in 19 days.

It’s his second trip around the country having gone to Benue State in 2024.

According to him, he rode for peace and unity, against drug abuse and for renewed hope.

“I thank God I was able to achieve this, it was easy. Some never believed I would be able to ride to Maiduguri and back but I did. I am looking at going a step forward by registering for the Guinness Book of Records soon,” he said.

“What Samuel did is very remarkable; no one has done it in the history of this country. We will continue to encourage him and hope that the private sector can come in and support the federation to discover more Samuels,” he said.

Captain FT Cycle Care Cycling Club, Francis Agbo, expressed delight for the successful mission while also calling on the corporate world to support the cyclist with an ambassadorial award to serve as a beacon of hope to athletes who go the extra mile in showcasing Nigeria in a good light.

During his arrival in Lagos, he was joined by teammates at Ojodu Berger where they rode through Ojota, Anthony, Palm Groove, Stadium, CMS, and Third Mainland Bridge and terminated at the club’s office in Fadeyi to the warm embrace of families, friends and well-wishers.
