D Champs clinch maiden Ikate-Itire football tourney



The inaugural Rikky-T three-aside football tournament for youths in Ikate-Itire LCDA held over the weekend in Surulere, Lagos, concluded spectacularly as D Champs FC clinched the trophy by defeating Mushin FC 3-2 in a nail-biting final on Sunday.

The tournament featured eight competitive teams across the Ikate-Itire, showcasing exceptional talent and sportsmanship. Fans filled the side-lines, creating an electric atmosphere that celebrated the spirit of football and community engagement.

The event was graced by a representative of the chairman of Ikate-Itire LCDA,  Olanrewaju Apatira, who expressed his unwavering support for grassroots sports development.

Apatira committed to partnering with the tournament’s organiser, Richson Tetteh, and his foundation, APEX – Athletes Pursuing Excellence, to enhance the quality and engagement of future tournaments.

Tetteh, the visionary behind the tournament, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved, saying, “I want to thank the teams, fans, and everyone who contributed to making this event a success. We are dedicated to evolving and growing this tournament to search, nurture, and reward exceptional athletic talent in our communities.

The winners, D Champs FC went home with a cash prize of N100,000 while Mushin FC got a reward of N70,000.

Winners of individual awards in the two-day tournament were also rewarded with cash prizes and football kits.
