Dessers set for Rangers stay

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has pledged his commitment to Rangers despite transfer interest from Italian clubs, following his impressive run of six goals in his last four games for the Scottish giants, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 30-year-old, who has netted 18 goals and provided five assists in 35 games this season, stunned Old Trafford with a brilliant 88th-minute equaliser against Manchester United in their Europa League clash, controlling the ball expertly before driving a precise shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

“There’s been no talks at all. I try to focus on football and the things that are happening on the pitch,” Dessers told The Scottish Sun.

“There’s a lot of unfinished business at Rangers for me. That’s also why I kept pushing in the last weeks, in the gym, in training, in the minutes that you get.”

The striker’s recent form has divided opinion among fans, with some highlighting his inconsistency in front of goal.

“Can’t score sitters, makes worldies look easy. That’s the myth of Dessers,” wrote Haggis Horror (@turasatana1) on X.

Ron Chuck added, “Imagine how good he’d be if he could score the easy ones too.”

However, others have praised his resilience and ability to produce moments of magic.

“Guy has scored two of the best goals we will see Rangers players ever score back to back. Cyril don’t think about it, just do what you do and you’ll be an all-time great. You have to stay,” Steven (@steven20031975) wrote.

William (@wacl3795) compared him to Brazilian legend Ronaldo, posting a photoshopped pic with Dessers placed on the Brazilian legend’s frame, “Dessers when he plays against teams with ‘United’ in their name.”

The Belgian-born Nigerian, who has scored 40 goals in 89 appearances since joining Rangers 18 months ago, acknowledged the mixed reactions from supporters.

“Yeah, that’s not easy,” Dessers said about being booed by fans during a recent clash with Aberdeen.

“That’s quite hard to take, but on the other hand, I’ve had a lot of positive interaction as well with fans around the stadium in the city and I try to take that to heart.”

The striker demonstrated his value again on Sunday, scoring a stunning late goal in Rangers’ 3-1 victory at Dundee United, firing high across the goalkeeper into the top corner after being set up by Zak Lovelace for his eighth league goal of the campaign.
