D’Tigress draw Mozambique, Rwanda in 2025 Women’s AfroBasket

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have been drawn in Group D of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where they will face Mozambique and Rwanda in the group stage of the continent’s premier women’s basketball competition, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The draw took place at the Hôtel des Armées in Abidjan and it set the stage for the 12-nation tournament that will be held in Ivory Coast for the first time from July 26 to August 3 at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.

D’Tigress, who are the defending champions following their triumph in the 2023 edition, gained automatic qualification as winners of the tournament. They were joined by fellow semi-finalists Senegal, Mali and Rwanda, alongside hosts Ivory Coast while the rest of the line-up was completed through regional qualifiers and wild card entries.

Having won the last four AfroBasket titles, D’Tigress will be aiming to maintain their dominance on the continent against Mozambique who were quarter-finalists in 2023 and earned a wild card to this edition, while Rwanda were semi-finalists two years ago and will be seeking another deep run.

Ivory Coast becomes the fifth different nation to host the Women’s AfroBasket in the past decade, joining the likes of Cameroon, Mali, Senegal and Rwanda.

Under the competition format, each team will play two matches in the group phase. The top team in each group will automatically progress to the quarter-finals, while the second and third-placed teams will play crossover qualifiers for a place in the last eight and the last four teams in semi-finals will qualify for the qualifying tournaments for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
