Duke Harps On Education Of Africa’s History, Culture

Donald Duke, former governor of Cross Rivers State, has stressed the need to educate young Africans about the continent’s rich history and cultural heritage.

He spoke in Lagos when Jesin Games officially launched AfriTrivia, an innovative educational board game designed to explore and celebrate the African continent’s rich history, culture, and diversity.

The game, first unveiled in Lagos, features six categories: people and places, arts and culture, sports and entertainment, government and politics, and quotations, all focused on Africa.

According to Jesin Games, the goal of AfriTrivia is to engage players in a fun and interactive way while deepening their knowledge of Africa.

At the event, former Cross River State governor Donald Duke supported the initiative during the launch.

He emphasised the importance of creating an educational experience that is accessible and engaging, particularly for young Africans.

“We live in an age where many young adults know little about their environment, current realities, or past. This gap in understanding highlights the need for timeless education.

“The AfriTrivia game stands out because it’s not just historical; it’s cultural, religious, and deeply reflective of our African identity. This initiative must not be confined to one part of Africa. It should transcend language and culture, encompassing English, French, Swahili, Arabic, and more, so everyone feels like a stakeholder in this project.”

Duke, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2019 elections, also called for collaboration with schools, banks, and organisations to ensure AfriTrivia reaches as many homes as possible.

“This effort shouldn’t solely focus on profit but on making a meaningful impact,” he added.

For his part, Chapel Hill Denham’s chief executive officer, Bolaji Balogun, lauded AfriTrivia as a powerful educational tool for storytelling and cultural preservation.
