Ebuehi out of Ghana, Mali friendlies

Defender Tyronne Ebuehi will miss Nigeria’s international friendlies against Ghana and Mali after suffering an injury, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 28-year-old, who last featured for the Super Eagles in their 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia last October, suffered a partial tear in his anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee during Empoli’s 1-0 defeat to Bologna on Friday.

He was, however, replaced by Ghanaian Emmanuel Gyasi in the 66th minute of the encounter.

Ebuehi joins Taiwo Awoniyi, who has also been ruled out on account of injury.

According to the club’s website, Ebuehi has begun rehabilitation after undergoing a Magnetic Resonance Imaging test.

“Empoli Football Club announces that the instrumental tests to which the player Tyronne Ebuehi, who came off during Friday’s match against Bologna, underwent, highlighted the partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee.

“The footballer, after having undergone an initial specialist evaluation to establish the recovery path, began the appropriate treatments with the Azzurri healthcare staff.”

Ebuehi, who recently returned from a hamstring muscle injury on March 2, looks set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines. He has been capped 11 times by Nigeria.
