The focal person of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Yobe State Chapter, Hon Nuhu Baba Hassan, has distributed assorted bags of rice, sugar, spaghetti, and other foodstuffs to hundreds of people in the state as part of efforts to cushion their hardship.
Speaking with journalists in Damaturu, he said the items were distributed to individuals, groups, and associations scattered throughout the state.
According to him, the items include bags of sugar, bags of rice, gallons of vegetable oil, and spaghetti cartoons.
He said Governor Mai Mala Buni’s humanitarian gesture is aimed at providing succour, especially to the less privileged in society, during the holy month of Ramadan.
The gesture was aimed at cushioning the hardship being experienced by his people, especially during and after the month of Ramadan.
He added, ” I want people to understand that we cannot feed everyone looking at the proximity and size of the state. I therefore appeal to everyone to contribute his or her quota to help the less privileged.”
He also urged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the items to reduce hardship among people in the state.
Nuhu stated that to ensure smooth distribution exercise across the state, the governor has approved the distribution of foodstuffs during this Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
He said the gesture was to enable less privileged Muslims to celebrate the festival with ease.
Nuhu, who congratulated the Muslims in the state on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, admonished them to continue to live in peace with one another so that development could thrive.
The beneficiaries, who were drawn from across the state, thanked the state governor for the gesture and prayed to God Almighty to reward him.
