ESSC boss tells chairmen to prioritise Okpebholo’s dev plan

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Enabulele, has directed all sports association chairmen to prioritise Governor Monday Okpebholo’s development plan with emphasis on the ‘Catch Them Young’ initiative.

This was disclosed in a statement by Enabulele’s media aide, Wilson Edoko on Thursday in Benin after a meeting with the sports association chairmen.

The chairman said that the primary focus of the meeting was to ensure that all 32 associations were fully prepared for the upcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun State in May.

He called for updates on each association’s readiness and announced that a screening exercise involving chairmen, coaches, and secretaries would be conducted.

He said, “Team Edo is not under pressure to win but must focus on long-term development. That’s why it is important to sustain the catch-them-young programme of Governor Monday Okpebholo beyond the sports festival.”

He assured the chairmen of the backing from the governor and that of his deputy, Dennis Idahosa.

“I urge all chairmen to be steadfast in the administration of their associations. The commission is committed to transparency, accountability, and excellence,” he added.

Chairman of the Golf Association, Andy Momodu, appreciated Enabulele and the board, stressing that sports must be driven by skill and merit rather than favouritism, to ensure progress in athlete development. He expressed confidence that their athletes would perform well at the festival.
