A former Governor of Jigawa State and a leader in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido has blamed citizens for Nigeria’s current challenges.
Speaking at his residence in Bamaina on Sunday during a Ramadan fast breaking event, Lamido responded to recent calls to form a new political party to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Lamido’s reactions followed a call by the immediate-past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai for opposition leaders to unite under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to rescue Nigeria from the current administration.
According to Lamido, Nigerians decided to vote out the PDP from power and brought in the All Progressive Congress (APC) without thinking about the consequences.
“As I have been saying, Nigerians don’t know much about Tinubu. He is an expert in deceit and selfishness,” Lamido said.
Lamido argued that emotions and anger alone cannot defeat President Tinubu. “You cannot challenge Tinubu with rage, greed, hate, envy, or wickedness. He is a master of all that,” Lamido said. “Only the ideals of truth and nationalism can confront him effectively.”
The former Governor called on politicians who were once part of the PDP to return to the party, stressing that rejoining a political family that effectively led the country from 1999 to 2015 was not a disgrace.
He maintained that only a robust and united PDP can regain power and deliver effective governance for the people of Nigeria.
“When a nation faces difficulties, its leaders must not let personal grievances affect their judgment.
“We need to reflect, be honest with ourselves, and ask: Are we better off now than we were before this government took over? The answer is no,” he stated.
