Fans tip Abiodun for success

Following her loss in the Women’s Young Player of The Year category of the 2023 CAF Awards, Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has been tipped to win future awards following her brilliant style of play, The PUNCH reports.

Abiodun lost the award to Morocco and Lille’s Nesryne El Chad at the event held in Marrakesh on Monday.

The 20-year-old was one of the breakout stars from Nigeria’s 2022 U-20 Women’s World Cup squad and proceeded to represent Nigeria at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where she won the hearts of many with her performance against Canada in the first game.

Abiodun’s category was the only one Nigeria failed to win at the event with Victor Osimhen, Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie all winning big just as the Super Falcons won the National Team of The Year award.

She shared photos of her mother and other Nigerian winners at the ceremony as fans stormed her page to also congratulate her.

“Grateful to God to witness and be part of this great historic night. Thankful to CAF and everyone who contributed to organising this outstanding event. Congratulations to all the winners especially to my lovely Nigerian winners. Thank you,” she posted via X.

“Congratulations to you because yours is on the way. We are all winners,” a fan, Bashiru Adekunle replied.

On Air Personality DevoyceofLagos also said, “Our jewel. Your crowning is on the way. Keep working hard. Best wishes.”

“Making the top three is no small achievement. Put more effort and await the accolades of being the best,” Taiwo Anuoluwapo also said while Bobby-Ray Ukaigwe was also confident she would win someday. “Don’t worry your time will come, you’ll be back. Better days ahead dear. You are a good player. Develop yourself, the next time you will be the best female African player, not the youngest. A lot of time ahead.”

The former Rivers Angels midfielder currently plays for Pittsburgh Panthers in the United States, scoring six goals in 22 appearances.
