Fayemi Applauds Oyebanji as AfDB Approves $80M Loan for Ekiti Knowledge Zone

Former Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State extended his congratulations to his successor, Abiodun Oyebanji, following the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) approval of an $80 million investment in the anticipated Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ) project.

The $80 million investment approval, which will fuel the Ekiti Knowledge Zone, stems from the state government’s efforts in securing the nod from the AfDB—a project initially proposed during Fayemi’s administration.

Taking to social media on Tuesday, the former governor conveyed his commendations to his successor for the bank’s approval. Fayemi specifically praised Governor Oyebanji and the principal officers of the state government for their relentless efforts in securing the approval.

In a tweet, Former Governor Fayemi stated, “Congratulations to Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the entire team, particularly Commissioner for Finance and Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Digital Economy, on the remarkable achievement of securing the AfDB Group’s approval for the $80 million funding for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ) project.”

Expressing gratitude to key figures involved in the approval process, Fayemi acknowledged the roles played by AfDB President, Mr. Akinwunmi Adesina, Country Director Lamin Barrow, and Executive Director for Nigeria at AfDB, Bode Oyetunde. He also thanked the Federal Executive Council and officials from the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Reflecting on the project’s origins during his tenure, Fayemi remarked on the initiative to establish Ekiti as Nigeria’s knowledge economy and the preferred hub for innovation, technology, artificial intelligence, science, and digital initiatives. He expressed excitement at witnessing the fruition of these efforts, signaling a promising future for Ekiti State.
