This was said at the second edition of its World Day for Safety and Health at Work in Abuja.

This year’s event, themed “The Impacts of Digitalization and AI on Workers’ Safety and Health,” with a sub-theme focusing on “Enhancing Tax Compliance through AI while Safeguarding Employee Well-being,” reflected the Service’s dual focus on operational innovation and employee welfare.

Speaking at the event, FIRS Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, PhD, said that while the agency is advancing its use of digitalization and artificial intelligence to improve tax compliance, it remains equally committed to protecting the mental health, cybersecurity, ergonomics, and overall safety of its employees.

“We are not just building a digital and data-driven tax administration system; we are building one where every individual feels valued, protected, and respected,” Dr. Adedeji said.

He highlighted key strides taken under his leadership, including FIRS’ recognition by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity as one of the most safety-compliant MDAs in Nigeria.

In 2024, Dr. Adedeji signed the FIRS Safety Commitment Statement and formalized the Service’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Policy, strengthening its internal safety framework.

The day’s activities included a Management Commemoration Symposium, a Safety Awareness Rally across FIRS offices in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), an Interactive Safety Fair with live demonstrations by safety vendors, and a webinar addressing health, ergonomics, and cybersecurity in the era of AI.

Dr. Adedeji reaffirmed that safety and employee well-being remain central to FIRS’ transformation agenda, emphasizing that innovation and worker protection must go hand-in-hand as the organization continues its modernization drive.
