Former Reps Deputy Minority Leader Dumps PDP

A former Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and ex-Chief of Staff to the Deputy Speaker, Toby Okechukwu has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that Okechukwu was recently appointed Executive Director of Projects for the South East Development Commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a resignation letter dated December 6, 2024, and addressed to the PDP chairman of Owelli/Amoli/Ugbo/Ogugu Ward in Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State, Okechukwu expressed gratitude to the party for enabling him to serve his constituents during his political career.

Okechukwu served as the representative for Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency of Enugu State in the 7th, 8th, and 9th National Assemblies.

In his letter, he highlighted his achievements while holding various leadership roles in the House.

The letter states: “I hereby notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party and extend my heartfelt appreciation to the party for the platform it provided, allowing me to represent the Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency in the 7th, 8th, and 9th National Assemblies.

“As Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ethics and Privileges, Chairman of the Committee on Works, and Deputy Minority Leader, we made significant strides in advancing critical infrastructure projects, such as initiating work on the Second Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kano Road, and Lagos-Ibadan Road.

“Additionally, we revamped and passed the COREN Bill, which was subsequently signed into law by the President, enhancing engineering practices across Nigeria.

“I remain hopeful that, moving forward, we will collectively work for the betterment of our people.”
