Belgium Jupiler Pro League leaders Genk are preparing for the inevitable exit of new Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare in the summer, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Arokodare joined Genk during the January 2023 transfer window from French Ligue 2 club, Amiens SC, on a four and half year deal and more fittingly as a replacement for Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu who bowed out of the club to join Southampton in the EPL.
The 24-year-old had a slow start to life in Belgium, scoring just two goals in 11 league games but he has picked up since last term when he netted 12 goals as well.
The new Super Eagles striker is enjoying the most prolific moment of his career in the 2024/25, scoring 20 goals and providing five assists in 38 games across all competitions – as the leading scorer in the league.
He’s been linked with several clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, with clubs from Turkey and England monitoring the performances of the two-cap Super Eagles star.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, the player laughed off Madrid as his prime destination ahead of the summer transfer window but his entourage are aware of other interests across Europe.
“Tolu laughs at Real Madrid laughs when asked about his dream club. But the smile doesn’t disappear when the Premier League comes up. His entourage has known for some time. This summer there will be a step up anyway. What about Genk? That’ll make a living on it. The market value of the player more than doubled. A scenario like Paul Onuachu, towards England, seems realistic,” the outlet said.
“Tolu has a contract until 2027, but the board has understood that a summer transfer is inevitable.”
