Glory Ogbonna football tourney finalists emerge

Ihenaeriala and Amaede villages in Isialangwa South Local Government Area of Abia State will slug it out in the final of the Glory Ogbonna Men’s Football Tournament 2023.

The competition, which is sponsored by Super Falcons defender Glory Ogbonna, began October 22 with eight teams and ends December 29.

The final and third-place match between Agbaragwu and Ihenaeringwu villages holds at Ama-Abuo Central School, Ovungwu.

The competition, sponsored by Super Falcons and Besiktas defender Glory Ogbonna, has a total prize money of N500,000, with the champions going home with N250,000 and a giant trophy, while the runners-up get N150,000 plus a trophy as well. The third-place winners will receive N100,000.

Also, there will be prizes for the best player of the competition, highest goal scorer and and best behaved team.

Versatile Besiktas left-back Ogbonna, who turns 25 on Christmas Day, was part of the Falcons squad for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and helped the former African champions reach the round of 16, losing on penalties to eventual finalists England.
