Nigerian professional boxer Damilare Arowolo, popularly known as “Ugly Wolf,” is set to embark on a gruelling 12-hour non-stop punching bag challenge as part of his preparation to break the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon punching a punching bag.
The endurance test, scheduled to begin on Wednesday (today), will take place at Wembley Gym in Oke-Ira, Ogba, Lagos, where the boxer hopes to demonstrate his improved stamina following a successful five-hour non-stop punching session he completed on February 12.
Arowolo’s 12-hour challenge represents a significant step up in his training regimen as he builds towards an ambitious 69-hour attempt in April, which would shatter the current world record of 55 hours and 15 minutes set by Indian martial artist Sidhu Kshetri in November 2023.
The boxer has established himself as a formidable presence in Nigerian boxing, having claimed multiple elite championships and two national titles.
Arowolo views the 12-hour attempt as not only a critical training milestone but also an opportunity to generate public awareness for his record-breaking aspirations.
The current record holder, 42-year-old Kshetri, set the benchmark after a gruelling 55-hour and 15-minute punching marathon in Pune, Maharashtra, India, exceeding the previous record by just five minutes.
A 25-year veteran of martial arts, Kshetri had dedicated six months of intensive preparation to his successful record attempt.
Arowolo’s support team has implemented a comprehensive strategy to sustain him throughout the 12-hour ordeal, including carefully timed nutrition, hydration protocols, and brief rest periods permitted under Guinness World Record guidelines.
Local boxing enthusiasts and sports officials are expected to attend tomorrow’s event to show their support for Arowolo’s world record ambitions.
If successful in April, Arowolo would not only break the existing record but also become the first African to hold this particular Guinness World Record, potentially inspiring a new generation of Nigerian athletes to pursue similar achievements in endurance sports.
