Historic cup win thrills Nnadozie

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has described winning the 2025 Coupe de France Féminine as the realisation of a lifelong ambition, following her match-winning heroics for Paris FC against city rivals Paris Saint-Germain, The PUNCH reports.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper was at the heart of Paris FC’s historic victory at Stade de l’Épopée in Calais, where she saved two penalties in a dramatic 5–4 shootout win after a goalless draw in regulation time to hand the club their first major trophy in nearly two decades.

Taking to social media in the aftermath of the win on Sunday evening, Nnadozie said the path to glory had been anything but easy.

“The journey was tough but the trophy worth it. A dream come true,” she posted on X. She went on to thank fans and supporters for their encouragement throughout the season, adding, “Thanks to everyone who supported. I give God the glory.”

In a separate post, the Nigerian international offered a succinct reflection on the moment by writing, “God did”, underscoring the role of her faith in her journey.

Nnadozie’s decisive saves, first denying Korbin Albert and later stopping Jade Le Guilly in sudden death, proved crucial in securing Paris FC’s first Coupe de France title since 2005. The win also marked her first club silverware since joining the French side from Rivers Angels in 2020.

She is determined to end the season on a high note, with Paris FC set to face Dijon on Wednesday in their final league fixture before another high-stakes clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the playoff decider that will determine the Division 1 Féminine champion.

The current CAF goalkeeper of the year’s exceptional form is a major boost for Nigeria’s senior women’s national team as they prepare to challenge for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in July in Morocco. The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana. They will be seeking redemption after a disappointing fourth-place finish in the previous edition, the worst in the nation’s history at the continental tournament.
