I want part of money enjoyed by young artistes – Ruggedman

A veteran rapper, Michael Stephens, aka Ruggedman, has said that he wants a part of the ‘huge’ money being enjoyed by young Nigerian artistes.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, he said, “I feel like a proud father anytime I see young Nigerian artistes doing well, because I am one of the people who laid the foundation for the Nigerian contemporary music that people are enjoying today. I am happy that young artistes are taking Nigerian music to another level. There is a lot of money there right now, and I want some of it. That is why I am always working on something.”

The rapper added that he was set to try something new this year with the release of his afrobeats Extended Play album.

“I have a new afrobeats EP that I have been recording since last year, and it currently has over 20 songs. There is a lot of money in the industry right now and I have been working non-stop. I also have a talent show that will be hitting the screens soon.”

Stating that he had no plan to ever retire from music, he advised younger artistes that no one would reign forever, so they should do the best they could when they still could.

Sharing his view on societal pressure when it comes to marriage, he stated that it depended on the kind of family one came from. According to him, one shouldn’t be bothered by what the society thinks, as long as one was okay with one’s family.
