ID Cabasa, others advise gospel artistes at EeZee Conceptz ‘Mindustry’

A singer and music producer, Olumide Ogunade, aka ID Cabasa, was joined by other industry heavyweights to advise gospel artistes about achieving success in their careers at the second edition of the ‘EeZee Global Mindustry Conference’, held at Daystar Christian Centre, Oregun, Lagos State, during the week.

While speaking on the need to build a sustainable structure for the gospel music industry, Cabasa stressed the need for Christians to look beyond the church, embrace unity and extend love to their colleagues.

He said, “The Gospel sends light forth. That is what the Bible told us. Even our Lord, Jesus Christ, knows we are in this world, and that is why He made us the light. There is no industry separated from another; we all do the same thing. The only difference is that we are doing this to the glory of the Lord.

“Those guys out there are your colleagues. It’s the same way you have bankers who are either Christians or not as colleagues. But, we must be the light and seek knowledge. This does not reduce the function of the gospel but in essence, improves the true worth of Christians.

“The goal is to be intentional about growth. We want the industry to grow. That is what we are all about. We want to equip our people with knowledge of important issues, such as copyright, song promoting, partnerships and collaboration.”

Also speaking at the conference, an entertainment lawyer, Foza Doza, enlightened the gospel music creatives present on copyright and music licensing. He said, “You must understand not just the act but also the need for proper documentation and licensing. Learn to go into contracts as much as possible. Music is brutal and does not recognise family, but as Christians, we must be loving and also knowledgeable.

“The people of God need to live above mediocrity. Our colleagues in the secular world understand the business of music. Entertainment controls culture and shapes what people accept or believe. If we, as Christians, want to survive in this space, we must understand the rules and obey them.”

Other speakers at the event were singer, Tosin Alao; music producer, Edward Sunday, Minister GUC, Mike Abdul and Tim Ogboruche, among others.
