Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has announced his departure from Nigeria Premier Football League giants Enyimba, following the conclusion of the recently ended top-flight season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 36-year-old was a January arrival at the Peoples Elephant, and he went on to score five goals in 13 appearances across all competitions for the Aba-based outfit, though he could not prevent the club’s ouster in the group phase of the CAF Confederations Cup. The coach Stanley Eguma-led side finished sixth in the NPFL table, 16 points adrift of champions Remo Stars.
Ideye took to his official social media handle, where he posted the news on X, “To the Chairman, Staff, my teammates and fans of Enyimba FC, thank you for the wonderful journey. It’s been an honour to wear the jersey and play for one of the biggest and best football club in Nigeria and Africa.”
“As I move on, I’m grateful for the fond memories we created together on and off the pitch, and I appreciate the love, respect and support you all gave me from day one. This club will always have a great place in my heart. With Love and Appreciation.”
Ideye began his career at local side Bayelsa, before proceeding on to the defunct Ocean Boys. His European sojourn saw him move to Swiss outfit Neuchatel Xamax, before going on to have spells at FC Sochaux of France, Dynamo Kyiv of Ukraine, West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League, Greek Super League giants Olympiacos, Chinese side TJ Teda, Málaga CF, Tianjin JMT, Aria Saloniki, Goztepe in Turkey, and Al-Yarmouk SC.
He was also a member of the victorious Super Eagles squad that emerged champions of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament in South Africa in 2013, playing alongside top scorer Emmanuel Emenike.
Ideye’s future destination is yet unknown, though it appears retirement could be next in line.
