IDPs Academy, 30 Others Battle For Laurels As Gombe Principals Cup Kicks Off

No fewer than 31 schools, including an academy established to take care of the academic need of children in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp will compete for honours in the 2025 Gombe State Principal’s Cup that will kick off on Tuesday at the Patani Stadium, Gombe.



Among the participating schools are 15 private schools and 16 government schools.

The draw for the soccer fiesta, organised by Green White Green Sports Center Limited conducted on Monday, threw up interesting fixtures with Government Science Pilot Secondary School, Gombe battling Savannah Group of Schools in the opener match at the Patani Stadium.

The chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) and initiator of the competition, Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu-Gara Gombe, said he expects fireworks and display of soccer artistry from the two sides, given their history of producing great footballers.

Gombe said winners of the competition will receive a giant trophy, N200,000 cash and medals; the runners-up will take home a trophy and medals, while the third place team will receive medals.

Other awards, he said are a trophy and N100,000 for the beast behaved school, a trophy for the Most Valuable Player and award for the highest goals scorer.
