If we don’t tell our stories, others will— Boma Akpore

Actor and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Boma Akpore, has harped on the importance of Nollywood telling the country’s stories, stressing that somebody else would do it otherwise.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, he said, “It is very important for us to tell our stories. If we don’t tell our stories, somebody else will tell it for us and we may not like how they will treat it. We have to take the initiative by telling our own stories. You are not going to see us trying to make a Chinese film because we cannot tell that story. The Chinese have taken the initiative and they have told their stories. Everybody else is telling their stories; why should we not do the same?”

He also stated that whenever he is on any movie project, he puts in his best. He said, “I was an actor before BBN but that was in America. I am very easy to work with, because I am a team player. If I am part of a movie project, I want it to be successful. And, that goes beyond being paid for it.”

Sharing his thoughts on ‘Lisabi’, a film he starred in, Akpore said, “It is a great film, which kept us all glued to our seats. I was not at the premiere of the first part, and I promised that I wouldn’t miss the second one. If you saw the first one and you liked it, this second one will spin you around.”
