Iheanacho nears Middlesbrough loan switch

EFL Championship side Middlesbrough are reportedly closing in on the signature of Super Eagles attacker Kelechi Iheanacho from Sevilla.

The Nigerian attacker is currently at the center of various speculations linking him with a move away from the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.

As per BBC, Middlesbrough have entered talks to sign Iheanacho and winger Samuel Iling-Junior on loan until the end of the season.

Iheanacho, 28, left Leicester in the summer to join Spanish club Sevilla but has struggled to make an impact and has yet to score in La Liga.

According to multiple reports, the Super Eagles forward rejected  move to Serie A side Venezia to join the Championship side.

Sky Sports earlier revealed that Scottish club Celtic are considering a reunion between Iheanacho and manager Brendan Rodgers.

This has been labeled as speculation. But according to Sevilla manager García Pimienta, the former Leicester City player has been handed full responsibility to decide his next club.

“Kelechi Iheanacho has a lot of offers and absolute freedom to decide where he wants to go. It will come together anyway, as soon as there is an offer that satisfies all parties,” he said, as quoted by El Correo.

As part of the agreement of his loan deal, the wages of the 28-year-old will largely be covered by the English Championship side.

Middlesbrough are seventh in the Championship table after 29 matches.
